5 tips to make people stay longer in your webpages and blogs

We all wish people to stay longer in our webpages, after all a writer write so that his or her work is read. But many web pages suffer a high bounce rate. By bounce rate I mean the rate (average of duration of stay in the blog or site) at which the people navigate away from the blog or website. This could be executed by the user by simply hitting the back button or closing the web browser all together. And no website owner wants this to happen and obviously it is detrimental if you are running an online business. The cause of this high bounce rate is multifactorial. In today’s tutorial we’ll be looking at 5 ways to decrease this nasty bounce rate. Yes, this are basic SEO tricks but are very useful in making people stay longer in webpages if applied correctly.

5 tips to make people stay longer in your site

So, here is the list of the 5 ways to make people stay longer in your website. This tips worked for me and I believe it will work for you too.
Site loading speed: Ask yourself this question. How long are you willing to wait for a page to load? Certainly, not much I guess. This is the case with most of the users. If the page don’t load within seconds, they are likely to hit the back button or close the page. This usually occurs with the usage of complex template for the webpage as well as improper formatting. To avoid this one should choose a simple template that loads within seconds. Also one can opt for “read more” options and resort to the using of few essential widgets if one wants. One should also show only a few numbers of posts in the home page. A webpage with 5 posts in the home page will definitely load faster than the one with 30 in the main page.

Quality Content: The phrase “Content is King” is one which is definitely in the minds of every blogger. Your site should provide good amount of information that the people visiting it is seeking. The posts should be easily readable and understandable. Even if you hold a PhD in English literature, using of "erudite vernacular" should be avoided as the consequence is negative. And also most people may not hold such a degree like yours, so if your words do not make sense to them, no one can bind them to stay in your site. The best is to use plain simple language. I am not a professor in literature but still I would like to mention that the writing should be absorbing and interesting. Such that even if you write humongous posts, it should be carved in such a way that people don’t lose interest in the midway. Obviously, grammatical mistakes should be avoided, as there is a natural propensity of people to judge writers by their writing. Nonsensical phrases my drive away the readers and believe me they won’t ever come to read anything in your blog.

Relevant Content: You must make proper use of the keywords that you are targeting. After you have selected a keyword for targeting, make sure that your post revolves around that topic. Many a time it happens that organic traffic reaching your site through the search engines finds the topic to be irrelevant to the term they searched for. This compels the user to leave your page and thus a higher bounce rate. To avoid this before, writing or posting make sure you have valuable information to share regarding the targeted phrase. Also, keyword stuffing may be the cause of this, so that practice should be strictly avoided.

Suggested Articles: What after someone is done with reading your article completely? How to make the person to stay longer? This is where role of the link to suggested posts comes to play. If you group link to similar links at the bottom of the article which are similar to that topic, there is high chance for that person to read one more article and thus stay longer in your page. You can find several widgets/plugins for blogger, wordpress or any website that could put a link at the bottom of the current post. Also to grab the attention you can put such links in between the post which are known as internal links.

Avoid Pop-Up pages as far as possible. This is which I personally find very irritating and I definitely hit the back button. So does many. Who does like to be fired with a pop-up every now and then when someone is actually looking for is some decent information. So, stop using scripts that creates pop-up nuisance every few seconds, or it will definitely drive away the viewer of your webpage.

Well, with this I conclude the 5 ways which I found to be effective in making people stay longer in the webpage. Apart from this there are many possible way to make people stay longer in your webpages or blogs, and if you have anything to add or any brighter idea, then it is always welcomed to be shared in the comment section.

What should be the optimal keyword density for SEO?

To do well in the search results you must know about the optimal keyword density for SEO. Most of beginners when they come to know about keywords; finds a targeted keyword; they usually start stuffing their post with the targeted word. The result is however demising. And they keep wondering why their pages aren't getting the rank they deserve. Well, this semi-concept should not be applied; instead one should have a good knowledge of keyword density for SEO if they want organic traffic to the site through search engines. In this post apart from density, I’ll be talking about the SEO basics for other two terms called distribution and frequency, which are equivalently important and should be always kept in mind. It is so because the spiders usually consider these three things while indexing and including pages in search results. So, before proceeding any further, I would like you to get yourself familiar with these terms.

What is keyword density?

Talking about keyword density for SEO, it is actually the percentage of keyword or phrases that is present in an article. Suppose, you have written a 500 words article and your targeted keyword appears 15 times. Divide the total number of targeted keywords by the total number of words in the article and multiply it by 100 per cent. In this example, the keyword density will be 3 per cent.

What are keyword frequency and keyword distribution?

Keyword frequency is similar to keyword density for SEO. It is a measure of how frequently the targeted term appears in the post or page. As per the search engine norms, any word except for stop words that has been used two or more times is considered to be a keyword. Lastly keyword distribution means how the terms have been spread over the whole post. Whether it has been evenly distributed or clustering in a specific segment.  The former is preferable and clustering practices should be avoided.

What should be the optimal keyword density for SEO articles?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions. Hyper-density should be avoided. The optimal keyword density for SEO should be in between 3-5 per cent. So if you are writing a post of 500 words, you should not put more than 25 times of the targeted keyword in that post which amounts to a total keyword density of 5 per cent. Also it should be evenly distributed throughout the article. Do not force them to form a sentence, in fact it should be natural sounding and easy to read. You can use stop words in between your keywords to maintain the optimal keyword density for your SEO articles as the stop words are not counted and also gives an easy read.

It has been said that spiders emphasizes more on the first 200 words of a post, so your keyword should be present at least in the first two hundred words and of course in the title of the post too. I have written a general guideline for optimal keyword density for SEO, for a 750 words article that has got 5 paragraphs. This is not “the” way, but “a” way to maintain the right amount of keyword density for SEO. You can device your own as long as it has the desired keyword density, frequency and distribution. So here is the example.

  • It is mandatory for your targeted keyword to be present ONCE in the title of the post
  • If you use meta description and meta keywords, then once or twice should be present in it.
  • Start your article with the targeted term in the first sentence and if that is not possible then it should be placed in the first paragraph at least. And also the keyword or phrase must be repeated twice in the first 200 words, including the one in the first sentence. Or you can simply chose to put the keyword two times in the first paragraph.
  • For the second, third and fourth paragraphs, use the keyword once
  • In the last paragraph; use twice. If possible once in the last sentence.

This was an example for a 750 words article. However, each article varies in word length, so you will need to optimize the keyword density for SEO for each individual article. But as you now know about the technique, I believe that won’t be a problem anymore. You can make your own guidelines like the one above based on the above principles for different length articles to save time of calculating density of keywords for search engine optimization. Also apart from maintaining the optimal keyword density for SEO, always keep an eye open to check if the words have been evenly distributed or not.

How to find keywords for SEO to boost traffic instantly?

You won’t get good traffic unless you know how to find keywords for SEO and use them correctly. Getting the right keyword or keyword phrase is equally as important as using them correctly in post for search engine optimization. This is one of the search engine optimization basics to be learned, or no “word” is going to take you any further. First thing first, before making a post you should determine which keywords or keyword phrase you’ll be using. So, make a list of that. A good way to start is to think like the people about what they are going to search to get to the topic you’ll writing about or the product you’ll be selling. To get statistics about the searches you can use some SEO keyword tools. Both paid and free versions of SEO Keyword tools are available. Although paid versions gives more detailed statistics but one can start with free ones like Adwords keyword Planner tool which also gives ideas about related searches or you can use BruceClay Free SEO Keyword Tool to get the search volumes on different engines. From there you can find keywords for SEO and make a list out of it. I would suggest making a long list when you are planning of using keywords for SEO. Just don’t including only those highly searched SEO keywords, including the medium ones too. It is because the highly searched ones have more competitors and would not be fruitful if you just stuff your post with them or using keywords for SEO correctly just because of competition. Perfect balance of both high and medium intensity SEO keywords are desirable.

Should you select keyword or keyword phrases for SEO?

A keyword is a single word whereas a keyword phrase is a bunch of meaningful words usually two or more. People use single word to gather information as it gives a broad search result. On the other hand, phrases are used to get specific results and it is usually used when someone is planning to buy something. So, if you are selling a service or a product then phrases are what you should give your attention to. Also statistics shows that about 55 to 60 per cent of the searches are keyword phrases, so you should probably give more concentration to it, but don’t ignore single keywords altogether. But while making the “long” list, find keywords for SEO as well as key phrases.

Concentrating and dilutional effects of Keyword in SEO

This is one of important aspect of using the correct keywords for webpages for Search Engine Optimization. Suppose you are selling white tennis balls and your site talks about only white balls. Obviously the search engine will give you a rank higher for that product. But now you started to sell Black tennis balls as well, thus removing your exclusiveness that you held while selling white ones. This will dilute the theme and thus decrease your rank even for the white tennis ball searches that you gained earlier. The best way to avoid this is to create different webpages and retaining the exclusiveness. This implies to the individual posts you make on your site. Suppose here I am talking about how to find keywords for SEO for best results, but now if I talk about some other irrelevant topics, it will dilute the theme of this post and thus will have a negative effect on searches. Just finding the correct keywords for SEO is not enough, sticking to the one which is relevant to your theme is more important.
Did you notice the missing D in the first view? :)

Use stop words, don’t sound like a robot.

Google has stopped indexing stop words (eg. as, the, for, etc.) but they are still used to give the most relevant search results. In this post users could have got here by searching for the keyword phrase “find keywords SEO how” but that definitely sounds like a robot and so instead I have used how to find keywords for SEO, which sounds more natural and acceptable. Also, using “robotic phrases” might give an impression of keyword stuffing and may give a negative effect although in the beginning you might get a good rank. The long term outcome is always bad though. So “use stop words” whenever you need it to make it more natural sounding.

Also when you find a keyword, you must make sure that it generates no or minimal bounce rates. Bounce rate means the rate at which people leaves your page by staying only for a brief period. We all want users to stay longer in our pages, so make sure you don’t use bounce words!

Based on the above principles now I think you’ll be able to shortlist and select the best keywords for SEO of your webpage or individual posts by selecting it as it is or modifying it using stop words. However, the story doesn’t end here. We are just done with the first part that is how to find keywords for SEO, to use them correctly I would recommend you to read my post on using keywords correctly to write SEO articles. Hope it will be helpful.

How to write SEO articles to get more traffic?

You have started a blog or site but you aren’t getting enough traffic probably because you don’t know how to write SEO articles. It might make you to feel baffled that even after writing such good articles why don’t people come to read them. The most probable reason is that your works are not Search Engine Optimized! Many times it happens that you receive emails for optimization provided by different services. Well that might cost you a lot if you wish to make a long term deal and pay them to work. Or alternatively, you can just read my post and learn to do it by yourself today only.

Why you should write SEO articles for your blogs and sites?

The reason is simple. That type of articles puts your site in a good rank in the search engines. So, if you are in the first page or say at least three pages of the search engine then there will be more chances of people visiting your site and reading it. This means you will get more traffic. In other words Search Engine Optimized articles are those articles which the search engines love the most. In other words these articles are designed to “woo” the search sites to index them in the first pages. The mechanism about how the pages are indexed, I’ll discuss in a different post, but today I’ll focus on writing SEO articles exclusively.

How to Write Search Engine Optimized articles?

Before I tell you about what you need to know about this topic, let me share my personal experience, about how I learned this technique. It was back in 2009, I started my first ever blog on some topic. At that time I was a newbie and had no idea about optimization of articles for search engines. So I made a couple of posts in that blog, about 5 of them and all of them are well written. Now what was the result?  After one and half months I received only 28 visitors, and about half of the hits were mine. [Laugh].  Now, that put a negative impact on me because everyone wants their work to be read, so I gave up blogging at that time. After that I became a freelance writer for some time and it is from my clients from whom I learnt to write search engine optimized articles. After learning this art, I started blogging again, applying the things I have learnt, it worked like a charm and soon my new blog attracted a good amount of traffic within months and more than 75 per cent of my pages got indexed in the first two pages. Today, I will pass on to you an aspect of writing SEO articles that I learnt from my experience.

The first thing you must know about is what is a “keyword” or a “key phrase”. Those are the word/group of words that people searches on the search engines like Google or Bing. When you write an article you should select a keyword that is most likely to be searched. The important thing is that the keyword must be in the title of the post. Now, there are major and minor keywords. The major is the one that which must be present in the title and but the minor ones need not. Try to determine one major and at least 1-4 minor keywords for your article. After that write a suitable title for your article which includes the major keyword you have chosen. Coming to the post, one of the most vital things is to include the major keyword in the first line of your post. If that’s not possible make sure that the keyword is present in the first paragraph at least. Remember that! Now as you write the articles, try to include major keyword in each paragraph if possible but you must end the article with that word in the last line or paragraph if not possible. Coming to the minor ones, they should be evenly interspersed throughout the article you have written. But remember one thing; don’t force the words in to a sentence which doesn’t make any sense and most people make the mistake here by just stuffing their creation with keywords. It should go with the flow always otherwise the crawlers will find them to be valueless and give a bad rank to your pages in searches.

How many or what should be the keyword density in a SEO article?

This is also an important aspect of writing a SEO article cause, too much keyword or key phrases may mark your page to be spamming. They keyword density which is found after researches is that it is best if it is between 2 to 3 per cent. That means if you write an article of 100 words, you should repeat the keywords about 2 to 3 times at max, for 200 word articles about 4 to 6 times and so on. So, be careful while doing this cause if you do it the wrong way it might have a negative effect. It’s good if you could right at least three paragraphs with a minimum of 300 words. I mean you should do that.
